WHAT IF YOU STAYED AWAKE FOR 7 DAYS?

 



Sleeping is a very important process for all of us. According to research, humans spent 25 years of their life sleeping.  Normally how many hours can you stay awake? 12 or 16 hours? But have you ever stayed awake for 7 days or 168 hours? Have you ever wondered what will happen if you stayed awake for 7 days? In this blog, I am gonna tell you about that. But I must warn you that do not try being awake for 7 days. 

AFTER 1 DAY/24 HOURS

Without sleeping, you will feel sleepy again and again. After 18-19 hours, you will feel tired. You will be left with no energy. Your head will start aching. But when you will complete the exact 24 hours, you will start feeling very happy. And you will find even rubbish jokes interesting. You will become humorous. You will find the world very positive. You will feel like your energy level is increased. You must be shocked after reading this. This happens because of a system in your brain which is known as the mesolimbic system.

This gets active after 24 hours of no sleep and starts releasing a lot of dopamine chemical {Dopamine is the chemical which gives you happiness, pleasure} in the brain to escape your brain from sleep and balance the lack of sleep. This chemical releases more than the limit. In this state, your motivation also increases and you feel soo much happy for no reason. You may have a feeling that wow, I should try staying awake for 24 hours and feel this. But, the problem is that is doesn't last long.

AFTER 2 DAYS/48 HOURS

After 2 days of not sleeping, you will again start feeling worse. That state full of happiness will not be able to sustain much longer. This is the time when your behaviour will become awkward. The people around you will think that you are drunk. You are not advised to drive any vehicle in this state otherwise accident is almost sure. 
You will start making decisions without giving it even a second thought as the decision making part of your brain which is known as Frontal Lobe will stop to function. Your cognitive and logical skills go down. You will also not be able to solve any maths problem.

At the end of 2 days, your body's glucose will stop metabolising, which means your body's energy will reduce so much. Your immune system will also start to ineffective. This system saves you from diseases every time but now it will stop working. Because of this, around your environment viruses will be able to attack your body easily {even COVID-19}. Due to this, you will be getting many infections. You will be seeing many weird symptoms in your body like the muscles of your palm will start to flicker. 
You will also get the problem of stammering which means you will speak slowly-slowly. Your brain will take more time to think than usual. If you try to read something or try to focus on something then you will not be able to focus on it even for 2 seconds, so, this means your power to focus or concentrate on something will lower by 90%. Sitting in one place peacefully or quietly will be impossible for you.



AFTER 3 DAYS/72 HOURS

This is the time when you will start hallucinating. This world will look like a video to you. Not just video like the world, you will also start hearing weird noises. The noises which do not exist in the realtime. You will start hearing awkwardly. 
This all is because you start seeing dreams in your awake state. So, the main point is Dreams are really important for your body, without seeing dreams you can't be alive. This is such a basic need that if you did not sleep for 3 days, then your body will start showing you dream in your awake state. And when the real world and dream mixes then you get hallucinations. When you are sleeping you are in any one state, either in the real world or in dreams.

REM is a state of sleep when you are dreaming and NON-REM is the state of sleep when you aren't dreaming. In everyone's sleep, this REM  state surely occurs. If you sleep only in the NON- REM  sleep then you will die. REM sleep is this much important to keep you alive. Scientists are not able to know even today that why REM state when we see dreams is so important for our body. So, this is the reason why you start seeing dreams while awake. Some people will say that they do not see dreams at night. So, let me tell you that you actually see dreams but you forget it in the morning. Many people remember their dreams clearly.  
 

AFTER 4 DAYS/96 HOURS

Now your body will start getting shut. You won't be able to talk to others properly. It will take 1-2 seconds for you to speak a word from your mouth. You will lose your sense of time which means that when you will go out, then you will start seeing the world in slow-motion. You will perceive everything in slow-motion. Now, this is the time when your cognitive ability and logical skills are so less that you cannot even tell what is 1+1, you will not be able to process it in your brain. 

AFTER 5 DAYS/120 HOURS

Now your reaction time will become very slow, for example, if someone slaps you in this state then you will know about it after 5 seconds. Things will become very weird. For some time you will experience the exploding head syndrome, which means you will feel every time that your head is exploding just like a star's explosion. You will also start believing that someone is behind you, all the time you will believe this. You will also develop some weird and scary feelings. 

AFTER 6 DAYS/144 HOURS

Your memory formation will be stopped, which means that you won't be able to create new memories in your brain. A poison called beta-amyloid starts releasing in your brain. When you are sleeping at night, in a deep sleep, then your brain cleans this poisonous chemical. But without sleeping for 6 days, this chemical is released dangerously.

AFTER 7 DAYS/ 168 HOURS

Now, you become like an alive zombie. A person who won't be able to think anything, can't walk, can't talk, can't remember anything. You will be sitting in one place like a ghost. Your skill to balance your body will completely vanish and that is why you will not be able to walk. 

HOW MANY DAYS HUMAN CAN SURVIVE WITHOUT SLEEPING?

This is rather an interesting question. So, according to the official records till now, the answer is 11 days or 264 hours. A man named Randy Gardner has made the world record of not sleeping for the longest period of time.

After the 6th day till the 11th day, Randy Gardner kept himself as a zombie to make that world record. After knowing about it, many people concluded that without sleeping for more than 11 days, you will die, which means your body will totally shut down after 11 days. But that's not at all true. Read on to know why...
Scientifically, when your body will be at the state of getting shut down, then at the end moment, in 1 second your body will automatically sleep. So, you can't practically die without sleeping for 11 days. Randy Gardner also slept at the end moment. After sleeping for 11-12 hours the body got back to its normal state without any long-term effect. 

So, in the end, I must say do not try this at home!!
